He graduated from Gilbert High School in 1998 after playing football his sophomore and junior years.[1] He started playing the drums at age 9 after his parents bought him a beat-up drum set. They said, "He was already beating on things." He attended the Los Angeles Music Academy. Rick's Brother, Sean Woolstenhulme, is the ex-guitarist for the group The Calling and briefly played with Lifehouse during their earlier years. Rick's favorite bands include Foo Fighters, The Who, Toto, and Coldplay. Rick is married to Jenifer Hagio.

Lifehouse

Rick describes his early exposure to Lifehouse saying "I was playing with this other group," he says of his earliest, accidental exposure to Lifehouse, "and Jason and Serge were practicing in the next room - I'd bump into them in the hallway." A while later, someone suggested to Rick that he check out a band called Lifehouse, who were looking for a new drummer. "The name didn't ring a bell for me. Even after I officially met these guys, we didn't make the connection right away," he recalls. "It was a couple weeks of 'I've seen you somewhere' and 'you look really familiar' before we figured it out." Rick joined the group in 2000, after the band had recorded their debut album "No Name Face." Rick replaced John "Diff" Palmer. He has played with the group ever since. As of November 2008. He is finishing his tour with Lifehouse in support of the Who We Are album.

Rick has recorded drum tracks for the albums "Stanley Climbfall," "Lifehouse," and "Who We Are."
